  Thallus shrubby, erect, 2–3 cm tall, grey-green; branching sparse to moderately dense; trunk pale; branches terete, 1–2 mm wide; branchlets absent; fibrils moderately dense to dense, 1–2 mm long; papillae usually dense. Isidia, pseudocyphellae and soralia absent. Cortex glossy. Medulla arachnoid; axis 1/4–1/3 width of branch, hyaline. Apothecia numerous, terminal, 2–6 mm diam.; disc concave to plane; fibrils moderately dense on margin, to 7 mm long; lower surface often with papillae, with or without short fibrils. Ascospores 8.0–9.5 × 5.5–6.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Cortex containing usnic acid. Medulla K+ yellow → red; containing norstictic acid (major), salazinic acid (minor) and protocetraric acid (minor or trace.
     
  A rare, endemic species in south-eastern Qld and eastern N.S.W.; grows mainly in mangroves.
